I'm finally getting around to posting pictures of my 204s. Both are built on the Savage target action. Both are almost as accurate as my competition 6PPC. Both have Pacnor barrels in an 11 twist with polygonal rifling. Both wear Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x50 scopes and Shehane tracker stocks. The one with the straight 28" tube weighs in at 15.5 lbs and has a Jewell trigger. The one with the 26" heavy varmint taper weighs in at 13.5 lbs and retains the 6 oz. accutrigger set at 8 oz. I also have a .243AI 8 twist barrel that can be put on either rifle to reach out beyond 500 yards. My wife picked out the colors. I didn't want to spend this much money on guns just to have her think they were ugly. Skippy doesn't seem to mind either way. I built them up from parts and finished them with auto clear coat on one and water based poly on the other.








I bought the pivot bench for 230$ from Cabelas and replaced the top with long leaf pine that is 9" longer to accomodate my Farley front rest with the length of these stocks. I wish I could have gotten one of Rick's benches but they are not yet available and this one works pretty well. I don't like the legs, as I have bumped my shins a few times in the heat of battle.

Very nice guns ray... my kind of set ups! I am planing a gun very similar to what your shooting, only in 6.5X47L for F-class. I'm building it on a Savage target action with a Sharp Shooters Supply recoil lug and stainless action screws. I'm ordering a Pac-Nor pre-fit also. Where my question comes is I didn't know Jewell made a trigger for the Savage action. Does he? Or did you modify one? If he does make a drop in, where can I get one? Thanks, and thanks for the pics.

Arnold made 10 prototype triggers for the Savage. He didn't put them into production because the Savage actions are not uniform enough to build an aftermarket trigger for with the tolerances that he uses. He says Savage actions are all prototypes. I measured parts inside my actions and they all varied by many thousands. It took us 4 hours to modify my rifle to accept the trigger that worked just fine in his model 12. After all that, he had to work on the action again in the field to keep it working. Everyone need a battery powered dremel tool for use in the dog towns.

Bottom line is, I have one of the few jewel triggers in existence for the Savage action. It is sweet and makes the bolt removal much more civilized than on the stock model. It has right at a 2 oz. trigger pull. There is a little more work that needs to be done to the action to make sure I never have a repeat of what happened in the field. Right now the adjustment tolerance is right on the ragged edge of working. One part needs about .050 ground off to make it more reliable. I told him that at this point he can never die.

Arnold is a good friend and I'm grateful to have such a great trigger on my dog gun but if I had it to do over I would go with a custom action like a Bat, or a Stiller, or a Stolle so I could use his standard Remington trigger.

The only way he could have marketed a trigger for a Savage was through a gunsmith that could make the install and adjustments. He sent some to Fred Moreo to try but it never worked out. If you want a Jewell trigger, go with a Remington action or a custom action built around a Remington style trigger or go with a winchester or an AR15.

Good lad!!! How well does yours shoot? Basically, I have just sighted mine and gone hunting. Shot 2 groups with hornady factory ammo and a dirty barrel and they went just over an inch.

Got about the same using 32gr Hornady's. Remington 34gr pills were a little wider... about 1.5 - 2", and 40gr Winchesters were about 4", but no keyholes! My dies and components are "in the mail" from Wholesale Sports in Calgary, so I have yet to roll some of my own pills and work up a load...

Interesting, I deal with wholesale sports in winnipeg and they dont seem to be able to get me a set of dies!?! They had ONE neck sizing die!?! I am told some were found in calgary and yes, they are also in they mail. All I have shot is 32 and 40 grain hornady stuff and they 40's are fine in my gun as well. Hope the blitz kings will be THE ONES for this gun as they have proably the best bullets for the caliber. Have a nice leupold coming for the little beast and the second week of july I am taking a vermin hunting trip south of saskatoon as I am told they have problems out there. Enjoy the new weapon and less us know how she shoots. Have fun.
