Lead free .17 bullets

Post by terrace »

It seems like Barnes and nosler have no interest in selling their 17 caliber lead free bullets . So after some development with reeds bullets i find a load for my 17 rem only to find out reeds is not making those anymore. Any of you lead free guys find a answer to this problem ?

I'm thinking about re barreling my 17 Remington to 20 practical

If Reed's is not going to continue the 17 cal lead free, it would leave us with the LeHigh. Unless Hornady & Nosler come out with some. I have a email sent to BlackHole bullets to see if they make a lead free. so far no answer. Bill K

I emailed reeds they replied they're not making them anymore.
guess I can shoot the factory 15.5grain ntx in the 17 HH if I have no other choice as for the rem 17 wait and see what happens or new 20 caliber Barrel ?

Well until I have to go to the lead free, I will shoot as many of my leaded one's in the 17 Fire ball, then just have to see what and how things go after July 2019. May just add a 17 hornet to the fold, so I can shoot the factory NTX. I know I have a very good number of the NTX in 17HMR for when the time comes. Will also probably be shooting the 20 caliber rifles I have more, this year, with the Nosler lead free bullets, I have for them. 20 SCC, 204R & 20-223ai. Bill K :)

Reed's returned my email question also. They are no longer making the solids, so there goes that source, for sure, of lead free for our small caliber. Must search other locations. Bill K :)

I just purchased a CZ 527 Kevlar with the idea of re-barreling to the 204ruger, sent it off to Bullberry Barrel Works in Utah for a 24" Pac-nor SS Super Match 11 twist, Todd over there does outstanding work.

Good news for my 17 hornet
https://www.hornady.com/bullets/rifle/1 ... 2-15-5-gr-
I happen to have some stored away so I thought I'd give it a go it shot pretty well for factory ammo and was fairly explosive at 120 yards
