Tikka t3 varmint vs remy 700 sps .204
Tikka t3 varmint vs remy 700 sps .204
Merry Christmas to all
Newb here and wanting to pull the trigger on a .204... have a remy 700 .308 AAC that I like a lot
Been doing a lot of research between the tikka and remy .204, and leaning towards the tikka.everything I hear and read is that everyone is happy with their tikka.i haven't read a lot of comments on the remy
Local dealer has the remy in stock, and looked at a few times.$580 ,but has to order the tikka $900 and could take a couple weeks to months
Like to here from some that have the Remington 700 sps varmint .204, and thoughts positive/ negative
Tikka or Remington
Thanks for any and all help!

Welcome to the forum. You will never run into a finer and more knowledgeable bunch of guys. A word of caution. This forum is awfully hard on the check book.
I have a rem 700 sps varmint in 204. Second most accurate rifle that I own . It will shoot in the 2’s and 3’s all day with good loads. I made a few modifications to it though. The one that changed the whole complexion was the addition Of a Jard trigger with a 9 0z. Spring. The second was a Boyd’s thumbhole stock that I pillar bedded. I have never had a factory rifle that would shoot that good. Every time I shoot it , it still brings a big grin of disbelief.

Personally I would go with the Remington and enjoy it. Down the road you can always use that action and but on a new barrel and go from there. I believe that Rem will shoot just as well as the Tikka, and you do not have to be waiting. Bill K

I had a Remington 700 .204 and it was turning into a money pit to get any kind of accuracy out of it. Sold it and went with the tikka stainless varmit and was the best desicion in my books.

Welcome to the forum!
I have a Remington 700 .204 SPS topped with Leupold VX-3. I use it for pdogs, it was accurate right out of the box. It took the "shooter" awhile to get used to it, but love it!
I have put over 4K rounds thru it and it shoots just as good as new.
I load my own rounds and the best load for me is Hornady ZMax 32 grain with 28.0 grains of Hodgdon Varget.
Working on some Berger and BlitzKings right now since it has been rather cold to be out shooting this holiday season, darn . It's supposed to warm up soon so I will be out shooting at them pdogs, got plenty of rounds all loaded up.
I think you will like the Remington 700, I certainly Love mine.
Let us know what you end up with and your results on the range.

Never had a Tikka but have five REM 700's and they all shoot well and function fine and if you ever want to do any improvements or upgrades, there is a bunch of stuff out there for that platform.

I would go with the Tikka. You must be looking at a varmint model for that price. I would rather start out with a good rifle than get one and have to keep playing with it to get it to shoot well. I will probably catch a bunch of flack now, but I think Remington's quality went down hill some time ago. I own three of them, some of them 30 years apart, bought new. The last one was a 17 Fireball and it took a new trigger and stock to get it to shoot. Almost gave up on it until I finally got a load that would shoot just over 1/2 inch. My Savage 204s would do better right out of the box.
Please, no Sidewinder today!

Leaning towards the tikka t3 varmint blued or stainless, and I'm having a hard time finding one. I've checked with two local dealers and both said unavailable with their distributors

Jaqua's Fine Guns in Findlay, OH had stainless V's in stock a while back; they're a distributor and claim arguably better access. Might try SoDak Sports (SD) also.rsrdan wrote:Leaning towards the tikka t3 varmint blued or stainless, and I'm having a hard time finding one. I own a Tikka and a Remington 700 sps both brand new (within the last 4 months new) . Quality of the Tikka is worth the extra cash!
