savage 204 walking varminter

Post by smitty55 »

just bought a new savage 204 walking varminter, I have not shot it yet i sure hope it shoots better than it looks. I have 6 savage rifles from target rifles to model 12 varminters. I know it is a inexpensive rifle, I have heard good things about them as far as shooting. Does anyone have any experience with them as far as the shooting abilities of the rifle.

I have one and its one of my best shooting gun. Mine only likes 32 grain bullets but shoots every brand of bullets under .25 inch groups.

My .204 is a Rem. 700 VLS but it really likes 32gr. Nosler Varmageddons and BLC(2) powder, Rem. 71/2 primers. 29 grs. is a medium load and I shot a .169 group with it.

shot first groups today with new gun WOW, this gun sure surprised me. 32 gr blitzkings, 28.0 -28.5 cci small rifle primer oal 2.250 , both loads shot in the ones at 100yds. This gun is right out of the box, bore sighted it at the range at 50yds, first 5 shots same hole!! I have several savage rifles from top of the line target rifles to and axis and this new walking varminter, everyone of them is a shooter and right out of the box. Thanks for the info to get me up and going !!!

Like you I had to say WOW too with mine. Also I wanted to add that I've shot around 1200 rounds out of that sleeved barrel and have not lose any accuracy yet!

I have a burris E1 which has the dots for a 10 mph crosswind for deer calibers but works great for the 204 I have it sighted in for. 100 yards and next line is 250 next 350 next 450 and the dots work for a 10 mph crosswind. It is 4.5-14 x 42mm and runs around 350 dollars and is better than anything have bought around that price.

nice !! i think iam going to put the 6-24 on the gun and try it. It has a nice small fine crosshair and dot with target turrets. I had it on a savage model 12 varmint 223. Not sure about sighting it in at 100 or 200 zero, Iam a big time turret twister , just have to see what it drops if any at 200. I have a 8-32 nikon on my 6br and both scopes hold zero perfect with the turrets, i have been impressed so far. 28.4 of varget is the magic load so far with 32gr blitzkings shoots in the low to middle 2s with only 50 rounds through it!! Thanks again for the help
