Cooper Model 21 - action Screw torque

Post by vanhammer »

Does anybody know how many lbs of torque should the front and rear action screws be tightened on a model 21 204 Montana Varminter with 26 inch barrel. Also are all guns torque the same at factory? Thanks in advance.

My booklet on my Mdl 21, 20 vt, (assume it would be the same for .204) says front action screw 35 in lbs. Rear action screw is 25 in lbs.

My manual shows the same. Just keep in mind that the torque is in, inch/lbs, not to be mistaken as ft/lbs. Really big difference! ;)

As for the torque specs on all rifles, as far as I know, each manufacturer has different pecs for their own rifles. I have seen some recommendations to as high as 60 to 80 in/lbs of torque.

Ruger recommends 95 in/lbs for the front action screw on Hawkeye models - that's not easy to do.

Don't want to be picky, but the last quote of 60-80 in lbs is NOT my quote.
