need help

Post by shawn700 »

i have a remington 700 sps varmint stainless fluted bull barrel in a .204. i know the barrel is not free floated sometimes the rifle is accurate then its like its way off. i have heard alot of bad things about the 700 sps varmint stock. is there any thing i can do to tighten and keep these groups more consistent? thanks in advance.

Try bedding and free floating the barrel. It's always helped mine a lot.

I have one of those stainless SPS Varmints, with an unfluted barrel. Changed the stock to a B&C Medalist A1 Tactical/Varmint with the full-length bedding block. Haven't shot it much yet since, but that definitely shaved some off groups without any other mods. Added a little weight, but you've saved some by going with the fluted barrel. http://www.stockysstocks.com often has deals on them. Also, it could be the X-Pro trigger causing your problem; my pull weight sometimes goes up when it seems to bind, but I have a Timney replacement ordered to solve that problem.

I have a 700 SPS. I love the rifle but the stock is crap. I free floated the barrel but the fore part of the stock is so flexible that when I set the rifle on a rest it pushes it back up into the barrel. My sons are planning on getting me a new stock for Christmas, although I did irritate my youngest on Sunday by out shooting him.

make sure your scope rings are tight. and the scope is not shifting the picture or cross hairs.

what primers are you using , you want rem 7.5 that would do it.is your cleaning brush worn and not clearing the rifleing,i had a rem 700 sps and those two were the cause.having floated the barrel can you slide a note up to the breach?hope this helps . i was using cci400 primers and they were not up to the pressure.
