Dont worry guys I will keep you all informed on how I get on with it. Yes I went for the 1/11 twist as I wanted to shoot the hevier higher BC bullets 39SBK's and the 40g V-Max's and had heared and read alot about the 1/12 being suitable in some cases and unsuitable in others to stabilise the bullets, I didnt want to be the latter!

Keep you posted chaps,

PS, i figured out how to do the pictures in the end ;)

Nice looking rig. Why a 1-11 vs 1-10? Just curious because I'll have to rebarrel someday.

Hiya Jim,

No factual reason mate apart from, some rifles will stabilise the 40's with a 1/12, so i thought the 1/11 would be suitable and just fine, i wont be shooting any heavier bullets then that :)
I
now two people in the UK whoshoot 204 Ruger with a 1/11 twist. The guy with the .204 shoots 40's with amazing accuracy, and has shot 45's to see what they do with again great results.

The other guy shoots a .20 Tac with the same barrel mine and again has fantastic results with the 40's.
I suppose really i followed the rest o the sheep :) and stuck with what I know will work ;)

When it comes to your question though mate 1/11 vs 1/10 for shooting upto the 40's i dont think there will be much differents in performance unless you want to shoot heavier bullets then go with the 1/10.

All the best Jim ;)

Thanks, Steve. Just curious about the twist, I'll have to wait and see more reviews about the heavy 20 cal bullets in a 204. Haven't looked at ballistics but it would seem if the bullet gets to heavy it may be better to move up a caliber or cartridge.

Thanks again...

If you want to shoot a heavy .204 bullet, say the 50 and 55 grain Bergers, you'll need a 1:8" twist. Anything from the 26 grain Varmint Grenade to the 50 grain Berger will do nicely in a !:9" or better a 1:8.5" twist. In that case might as well go 1:8". The heavy weights won't develop the velocity naturally, the 50 grain poops out around 3,200 fps in my barrels, but is quite accurate. My rule of thumb is always to err on the side of too fast a twist than one too slow.

Wrangler John...I agree but I wonder where the line gets drawn in order to have good accuracy for both the light & heavy bullets. For example 70 gr bullets in 1-8 twist 243 barrels and 55 gr bullets in 1-8 22 cal barrels. In addition to acuracy I wonder if the light bullets will stay together if pushed.

As far as 50 cal 204 bullets @ 3200 fps I'll be sure to plug in the numbers, be intersting what the down range #'s are.

Thx...Jim
