A New 20 cal round

Paid a visit to my local gun shop yesterday. Picked up a pound of 10x and got to talking 20 cal. The owner built a twenty cal on a rem 700 action. Lija 1:10 twist i It Fires the 6.5x47 Lapua case necked down to 20 cal. This gun is slinging 40 grain Bergers at 4400 fps on the crono.
It is a 1000 yard gun. If anyone has a old rem 700 lying around even in poor condition I am interested. I want one of these. Drawback is dies have to be custom made. But this guy has the tools to cut the chamber for me. He is shooting 55 grain Bergers at a touch over 3600 fps. This is awsome. He has a confirmed PDog kill at 975 yrds!

There's .223 WSSM shooters driving 40-gr pills to 4500 fps and 55-grainers to 3800. And they get to use factory brass. If you're just looking for an exotic wildcat round, contact Todd Kindler and the Woodchuck Den. He can probably hook you up with a .50 BMG necked down to .20.

Good one Fred.My 20-BMG only gets 6500fps with the 55gr Bergers.Maybe a powder change will get it moving faster.LOL

Valar: If you're really serious about building up a LR fast twist .20 cal rifle, there are much better choices in regard to parent case than the 204 Ruger. The 20 Dasher comes to mind, also the 20 PPC just for starters, but there's many more that offer the necessary case capacity needed for that 50 or 55gr 1K yard work you're considering. Just a thought.

If you do a search here, you'll see that this subject has been discussed at length previously with some good suggestions in regard to parent case.

I was serious about everything except the necked-down .50 BMG.

LOL well it is a good thing all people do not think that way. Thank god ruger and Hornady didnt, you wouldnt have your pet 204 and neither would I. I realize there are other cases to make the 20 zing faster. I have looked at PPC , 20 br, Vartag, Grendell etc. and others. Its my nature to want more.
However, I am vere pleased with my 204. I just need a calm day off to get her dialed in perfect! Now that I have the 204 built I would like another project. I figure why not another twenty. I love the low recoil and accuracy. Thanks to all, I wasnt offended or meaning to offend!

A long shot for me would be over 100 yards. So an extra 100 foot per second just isn't that impressive to me. I can only imagine how much extra powder is burnt for that extra 100 feet per second.

Hornady & Ruger made it available to the public in a more affordable way. Todd Kindler had more to do with the 20 cals taking off than a lot of folks realize.

I agree it is much more affordable. I have aLathe and do so machineing I am wanting to try a full bench gun build?

If you are interested in the 20s check out saubier.com. Lots of good info over there. If you want a 20x47L build one. I have a couple of 20brs pushing 55 Bergers at 3580. Very impressive in the prairie dog fields.

I am thinking what to sell to raise the coin to put a 1 in 9 on my VLP and chambering for a 20 dasher to push those 55s. Wonder if the poofteenth extra powder over a standard br case will give much more velocity

. I read that Berger recommended a 1 in 8.5 (IIRC) twist for the 55s but the smith is sure a 1 in 9 with a relatively big for bore case will work. Now my cynical side wonders if its because he imports Lilja predominantly and they only go as fast as 1 in 9 last time I checked.

I'd be interested to know the twist rate of you barrels
