I took my dear old mother on a tour of the desert Southwest, taking in some of Nevada, Utah and Arizona (okay, we hit California, too, a little bitty bit, but I didn't stop or set foot on ground, so I'm untainted yet  )

I'd never been there before, so I didn't know what to expect, but it turned out to be an excellent adventure.
We flew into Vegas, got a rental car, and fled as quickly as possible, for Utah up I-15, a very nice drive. We spent the night in Hurricane (where Bullberry is located, for you Contender fans) and went to Zion NP the next morning. Then we drove to Bryce Canyon, and took the shuttle tour, and then headed for AZ.
Getting up early the next morning, we went to Lee's Ferry, a famous crossing spot on the Grand Canyon, then we went on TO the Grand Canyon, via Cameron, from the EAST, on BIA64, an excellent new road. After seeing "the big gully" as my grandfather called it once, we went to Flagstaff and overnighted.
Got up the next morning and left for Sedona, got there (via Oak Creek Canyon) and had breakfast, then went on to Clarkdale and went on the Verde Valley train ride thru the Verde River Canyon, saw bald eagles and such, then back to Sedona for an overnight.
Got up early (AGAIN) and took one of the famous "Pink Jeep Rides" which is a real fun time, it lasts about two hours, and it's rock-climbing in custom-built Jeeps, kinda fun, but better if YOU get to drive........ Then, on to Kingman AZ, for a loafing afternoon and an overnight. Not much to do in Kingman for visitors........... Got up the next morning and took old Route 66 down thru the mountains and desert to Oatman, and got mobbed by the wild burros there (I was forewarned and had bags of carrots to feed them  That was a lot of fun, they'll follow you around like puppies if you have carrots......... Then we took old 66 on down to the state line and slipped into CA for a short bit, just to say we'd been there, and on back to Vegas.

We had a couple days in Vegas to kill before flying back, so we went to the Blackhawk Car Collection/Museum in one of the casinos, and just puttered around a bit. We were tired from all the driving. More in next post.......

Then we almost missed the plane, but didn't...... because it's easy to get lost in Vegas, and the street maps are purposely obfuscatory (that's my story, anyway  )

Oh yeah, you guys like pics. Well, I'm tired, so if you want 'em go get 'em......

The pics of Zion didn't turn out well, but the others, well, you decide...............
