Anyone looking for a Sako 85 SS in .204??

Post by glenn asher »

I went to Whittaker's today, with a couple of buddies, and while loafing along the many aisles at the place, found a couple of Sako 85s, SS, fluted barrels, laminated stocks and set triggers (just like Rick in Oregon's  ). One was a .223, the other was a .204, neither are common to run across, either. I didn't notice the price on the .223, but the .204 was $1489,+the governor's share(6%), of course.

I was/am perpetually broke (we're only working 32hours/week right now), so I had to leave it there, while it was hollering "Buy Me, Buy Me!) at me. I callously left it behind, sad to say, but thought I'd mention it to anyone who's been waiting patiently to find one.

I also saw a Savage 12FV .204, the budget varminter, in a completely new synthetic stock (I don't think it was an Accu-Stock, but it might have been) which mimic-ed the Low Profile stock a lot of us really like, it was VERY interesting to me. It might actually cancel out the need/desire to replace that old Tupperware with a B&C Duramaxx. That certainly has merit. I'm still perplexed by the blind magazine in that one, since it was a single column feed................ I'll have to check those out more closely next time I'm down that way.

One of my pals bought a Rock River Varminter EOR .223, as he was wanting one pretty badly. It felt pretty good, for a big old heavy HDR, and the trigger was more than tolerable, it was downright GOOD. He seemed happy enough, it was EXACTLY what he was looking for, he'd even printed up the page from Rock River's website to help him find it. I think I'd rather have had a 1/12" twist, but this one has, according to the site, a 1/8" twist, not a bad handicap, but it will probably alter his bullet choices. We'll find out when we shoot it, I reckon.

http://www.whittakerguns.com and they'll ship to any FFL holder, and have good service.
