Hi Guys.I just picked up some Berger 50 gr bullets and am wondering if anybody has any suggestions on what kind of loads would work well with them :?:

Hopefully you have a 9 twist barrel to go with them. Or at least a 10.

I'm sure it's a 1 in 10. It's an off the shelf Savage with a bull barrel. I've had good results with Berger 35s and thought I'd try these just to see how they would react.

My bet is your "off the shelf" Savage is a 1-12 twist for the .204.

I personally wouldn't expect them to be good with that slow of twist.

This would be a good test though. I have shot heavier bullets than the twist should have supported and had surprisingly good results.....

Please, keep us posted if you do try them.

Hi new shooter, as some of the more knowledgable members have pointed out, it's the bullet length and not the weight that usually decides wether a particular twist will stabilize the bullet. regards KB.

I'm with muley. I'd bet it's a 1in12 twist. Most of them are.

My mod 12 Savage is a 1:12 twist. It loves the 40 gr Vmax and likes the 45 gr SP. The lighter rounds don't seem to do as well with my barrel.

New Shooter

I look forward to the results.

If in fact you did get a 10 twist Savage it just may stabilize the 50's enough to work.
What really interests me is the possibility Savage is playing with a tighter twist. Is it possible one slipped from the expierimental bin to the production bin?
