Scope

Hi I am new just bought a Savage 12FV .204 ruger now I need a scope. My question is what should I get I like the brand Leupold. I am going to shoot at varments at a 100 yards or so. Thanks for any input

i have the same rifle . mine shoot great. i have a nikon buckmaster 4.5x14x40 on mine and it works great. i have a burris with the burrisplex that i am thinking about putting on it for making better long range shots. but if your staying around 100 yards or so you don't need a a high dollar scope. my .02

First of all welcome to the forum! If you plan on shooting in the 100 yard range then you will only need a 3 x 9 scope and you can go with a low cost scope ($75ish) or a nice Leupold for around $300. However, I think that you are going to find that the .204 will amaze you and you'll be shooting out to over 400 yards. If that becomes the case then I think that you would do better with a scope in the 14 to 20 power range. Check the "Swap Meet" section as Rick has a real nice Leupold for sale. Hope this helps, Gary

You may also want to look through the posts in the "Optics" forum. Captqc is right, once you find out that the 204 will reach out a bit shooting critters at 100 yards will become a bit boring. You may as well plan for it now so you only end up needing one scope.

I've got the same gun .Topped mine with a 6 x 24 x50 Nikon Monarch .Check out the Nikons, I believe this is the only scope that this gun will ever need !

Thanks for the replys. Scopes are new to me and big price range one could spend thousands. I shot hand guns and assalt rifles but liked the .204 so bought one. Now I have many scope choices. In the old days a 3X9 was good now so may different scopes. thanks I will do my homework so I can get shooting.

i also have the same rifle and the gun came with a 3X9 i agree with Captqc i can shoot 300yrds with my 3X9 and put them in a ok group i price checked my scope and it was like 350ish but it was worth the money if your willing to spend it.
