Gotta share my new rig...

Post by Gmoney »

First AR and it took me a while to plan her and get her all set up. Virgin range trip this weekend. It's not in .204 so I hope ya'll will forgive me.

SPECS:

- RRA lower
- JP trigger set at 3 lbs.
- Suregrip ambi grip
- WOA upper finished at 18" twisted 1:7
- Contoured slightly smaller than an H-Bar. (Forgot exactly what)
- Carbon fiber float tube
- RRA one piece mounts/rings
- Sightron SII 3-9x42

Not sure on weight but as she sits in the picture she's lighter than my Savage Predator Hunter in .204 all up. I figure she's around 8 pounds as you see her.

Virgin range trip this weekend as I had heck finding rings/mounts...

I'm tickled...

Thanks fellas...

OT,

Been running Sightron for a year or so now and am digging them alot. In fact, sold the gun this scope was on but kept the scope. You don't have to convince me...

It's in .223.
It's funny as I have been shooting a .204 for many years now and have never really tinkered with a .223. Now, lots of folks are going to the .204 for their AR's but I'm going .223...

Potential bullets of choice include the 60 Vmax, 60BT, 63 Sierra, or the 64PP. We'll see how they shoot shortly...

Could not find any TAC when I loaded these but now have some. They are loaded with H4895 now. We'll see what happens...

1:7 twist? You need to start with 69/77/80 gr HPBT.

Might try some powders a touch faster as well. H4198 comes to mind.

Think you may be wrong my friend but we'll see...
If John from WOA says I'll be fine shooting these bullets I believe him. He's running the same barrel with 55's and doing just fine as per him...

I'll take pics of the targets...

Nice rifle. Be sure to let us know how it shoots. You can always get a 204 upper in the future. It seems like we have quite a few members getting into some semi-auto action.

Virgin range trip with the new 18" WOA .223 upper twisted 1:7".

Was told by "people" that the bullets I wanted to run wouldn't "work" but John from WOA told me to do it so I believed him...grin...

I ran 4 bullets: 55 Berger, 60 Vmax, 63 Sierra, and the 64 PP. All with H4895 and CCIBR4's. Maxed out at 26.0 even with the 55 and 60 and then went to 25.5 with the 63 and 64.

The 55 Berger target the range guy threw away but it shot very well with all bullet weights. As good as the 60 Vmax if not better. The target should be self explanatory...

The measurements were outside to outside so you can deduct .224 from those. Powder charges are listed. Top left and going to the right go from the 60 Vmax - 63 Sierra

Here's the 64 PP loads.

The targets were very whtie and the glare from the sun was amazingly intense. So intense that I almost left. So, take these groups for what they're worth even though they are only 3 shots anyway. H4895 is some dirty crap...

I loaded up the rest of my 25.2 Vmax load that went under .2 to shoot the rest of the varmint season if it will hold me over till this summer where I can switch powders...

Gun in question...

The rifle felt good, looked good and I am tickled with it.

I'm currently waiting on an AR upper chambered in .204 from John at WOA. 1-10 twist PacNor. Should stabilize the 40gr and I got a 24" so hopefully the .32s will still drive tacks. I'll keep you posted....
