? for the free floaters

I free floated and bed my cz 527 varminter. my ? to all you that have free floated barrels tel;l me how much free space between the barrel and stock i have a tight fit with a business card something tells me to go get the sand paper and make it a lose fir for the biz card. i have heard to use a dallor and to use three dollars let me know what you think.

cracker: If a dollar will slide easy with no tight spots, you're probably okay, but a business card just gives more clearance and avoids any possibility that the stock forearm could flex under the weight of the rifle and touch the barrel.

I usually leave the dollar clearance at the visible spots along the forearm, and give more clearance for cooling and virtually no possibility of the stock touching under the barrel itself. I leave a ridge about1/8" to 3/16" (.125" to about .190" roughly) along the inside of the forearm for asthetic purposes, but it's really not needed for performance, just looks.

When you bedded it, did you make sure the recoil lug ONLY touched the new bedding at the rear of the lug? It should NOT touch at the bottom, sides, or front. The bottom of the action of course touches, as does the tang, but the recoil lug is critical for accuracy to be bedded properly and only touch at the rear surface.
