The wind blew cold this year on my trip almost the whole week but the shooting was still good. I did manage to get out and get a few rock chucks all though some of the shots where hard to make with a 25 mile an hour cross wind I must of burned a hundred rounds to get three chucks at three hundred yards.I know it looks sunny and bright out but that wind was cold.

This is a picture of the crew we slew a great many squirrels. My one eyed dad on the right did just fine. He should have that eye back working soon it didn't slow him down a bit.

Great pics Ryan. The extra elevation plus the mobility would be great, just don't forget where you are... that first step off the bench will get your attension!! Awesome shooting rig. Was that part of your crew?

No just one of the local inthusist. I had seen some other ingenous rigs but didn't get there photo's one had jacks he let down to steady the rig. This guy also had jacks for his out fit. He also had a partner with a table some what like his.

Nice pics Ryan. That elevated platform sure would do the trick for those sneaky ones that just like to barely show themselves.

Ryan--Did you mark the spot on your GPS where you shot those 100 rounds to get the three chucks? You may want to go back there and start mining for lead

Thanks for the report and photos. I think it must be windy all over the country--tornadoes down in Oklahoma, 20 to 40 mph winds in North Dakota and now you report high winds in your area. I hope it quits blowing pretty soon. Summer will be over soon and I'd like to have some days without the doggone wind.

It has been very breezy down here is So Cal also it does add a challenge to the shooting. My battery was dead on my wind gage when I showed up to the fields Oh well I lived with out one for years.

Ryan, am I remembering correctly that you also use the elevated (top of your Nissan) technique? Gary

I have toyed with the idea for hunting coyote in the desert where the creosote bush blocks your view some elevation would be nice but have yet to do anything. A stiff foundation like a Ford F250 would help. The price of gas keeps me from going to the desert very often. There are lots of coyote close to home where it is more economical to hunt. I have even been getting some squirrel shooting in around here. which is nice.

Ryan, glad you got out between "weather events". It's been the same up here....rain, snow, wind, some sun, then repeats all over again. The dang jet streamis too far south, and is screwing up all the US weather at present.

Anyway, that rock chuck looks familiar with his pot belly....have we seen him before? Thanks for sharing.

Nice pic's and you wont have to worry about rattlers that high off the ground. Just back from Kansas and shot 546 rounds in 2 1/2 days of shooting prairie dogs. Wind was a factor and had to hold off about a foot to hit them at 325-350 yards. Pups were all over the place but for the long shots in the wind we went for the adults which were smart enough to say out beyond. Managed to dodge the storms and saw only one ratter on the road in front of the area we shot in. Hopefully they wont poison out the area next year, as its a great place to shoot. We got wind/rain out the last day so left a day early.
