UPS dropped it off today, and I just got back from testing it.
To my surprise, they even fixed the broken clamp on the case.
Here's what was written on the work order:
"Added new scroll knob to the remote. Tested the remote many times and now the new scroll knob scrolls and sends properly every time. I put the board into a new Max1 case. I added a new receiver crystal to the unit to help increase range. Added a new transmitter module to the remote to help increase range. I tested the unit outside and now the unit has proper range. I was out to over 150 yards with customers remote and every time I sent a command from the remote, the unit responded properly."
My own testing had excellent results also.
- I first set the call down in some 16" high grass 5' from the edge of a mowed field, making sure the antenna was pointed straight up to the sky. I then moved to 50 yards away testing all functions such as remote turn-on, power off, changing sounds, volume, and mute. Everything worked perfect.
- I then moved to 100 yards. At this range I had to make sure the antenna on the remote was pointed straight up, but when it was, everything worked perfect.
- I then moved to 150 yards. At this range, I had to make sure the antenna was pointed straight up, and needed to keep the remote 5' off the ground. It was a bit less responsive, but I could make it do everything I wanted. I don't think in the field I would want to concentrate this hard on the caller to get it to do what I want it to do.
- Next, I went and hung the caller by it's lanyard from 4' tall metal fencepost, making sure the antenna was straight up and down. I then moved back to 150 yards, and everything worked flawlessly again without needing to pay attention to hold the remote up above my head or anything.
- I then moved to 300 yards. At this distance, I had to hold the remote up above my head, but I could make the caller do everything I wanted. Turning it on and off took repeated attempts, but it did work.
The next thing for this caller may be to get the SP-55 external speaker, although changes in volume at 300 yards were audible. The convenience of the small size of the unit would be compromised by adding anything to what I need to carry along with it.
One thing I might recommend to FoxPro is, if it would help transmit/receive, to offer longer antennas for both the transmitter and receiver tuned to 418mhz as an upgrade, but maybe they've tested with longer antennas and found it didn't make enough difference to warrant the larger size.
Thanks FoxPro!
