Early morning coyote

This morning it was 17 degrees out with 20-25 mph winds out of the northwest. I went to a place for the first time this year since the landowner didn't want anyone disturbing his deer hunting which I can appriciate. I got set up in a fence row just as the very first hint of light started to show on the skyline. The wind was quartering into me from the front left and man, was it cold.

The field in front of me was a corn field that had been worked up and just as it started getting light enough out across the field, I could barely see something moving from left to right. I looked through the scope and could see it was a coyote. I gave three lip squeaks, each one louder to get over the sound of the wind. The coyote stopped broadside and looked my way. I had just enough light to see the cross hairs and pulled the trigger. All I could see through the scope this time was an orange ball of fire but heard the distinct whack of the bullet. The coyote was a male and weighed 37 lbs. shot a 66 yards. I was shooting the 39 SBK, hit the coyote in the shoulder with no exit.

You can see the coyote just over the tip of the barrel in the sun spot.

Melvin: That appears to be a much healthier dog sans mange this time around. Glad you're able to get out so much and do what we all love to do. That shot was almost 'point-blank' for you this time!

Thanks for posting; that's a great way to start the day.

Melvin..........Way to finish out the year. I guess your loads work in cold weather too! Glad your rifle didn't have a 2oz trigger. Thanks for sharing and a real nice yote. Yep a fire ball thru the scope can make you see stares for awhile.
