Had the pleasure of watching a Savage F Class rifle (6.5x284) shoot at 5/6/700 yards today.

This was not at the range, but out on the range, with a homemade shooting bench and a couple of hollow core doors for targets.

I must say...if you are looking for a long range rifle that is accurate, I don't see how this rifle can be beat.

A shade over $900 for the rifle, $75 for good rings and bases, and splurge a $1000 for a scope.....

4 shots...1 1/2" at 500 yards. I did not look at the targets at 6/700 yards.

i sure wish santa would bring me one
and if he did maybe the easter bunny could cough up the scope

They are a great value. A friend and shooting buddy of mine took one to Raton New Mexico and shot in the F class championships there. His was the .308 version and he shot in F/TR.

With his factory built $900 rifle - he took second place.

I am impressed! The .308 and the 6.5-284 are both good cartridges and I think Savage has proven that they're building amazingly accurate rifles - right from the factory. For the money, I agree - I don't think they can be beat. I've already got a couple of precision rifles, one built on a Winchester Model 70 action, the other on a Remington 700. They're both very good rifles and I am happy with them. If I was starting over in the precision rifle game - I'd take a long hard look and likely go with the Savage. Best bang for the buck.
