My 40 grain Berger flat base bullets finally arrived for my .221 Fireball. I'm not sure if they'll be fur friendly by the looks of them. The hole in the tip is HUGE. Kinda looks like a Blue meanie :? . Anybody shoot fur with them???

My dad used them on a couple last year and he blew the snot out of them. Not fur-freindly.

Mike, you may want to try the Berger Match bullets vs. the Varmint or MEF (Maximum Expansion Factor) bullets in your FB for the fur friendly factor......

As Verm2 mentioned, the Barnes Blue Meanies (40gr VLC's) rip the snot out of Wiley hides. Great for watching Skippy launch in pieces, but not the hot setup for saving pelts; ditto for the Berger MEF's.

Rick, I know all about the explosiveness of the VLC's  I'm saving them for my trip to see skippy this spring  8) . It's the 22cal 40gr flat base Berger match bullets i'm concerned about . They to look VERY explosive!! Berger's 40gr hollow point is 3-4 times larger than the 20 cal 35's. :? :?

Verminator2, Was your dad using the 22cal 40gr Berger's. If so, do you know the velocity??

Wow!! that's fast. I'll be about 1000fps slower with my fireball. I may be ok at the slower speed. I guess we'll find out. I need another coyote rifle other than my Predator in .204. Ya know ,a loaner for a friend when he tags along  .

Mike
Those 40gn Bergers you have are MEF just as Rick stated.(all splat)
You'll have to go up to 50gn to get a Berger bullet with the tight hollow point your looking for.
Have you whacked one of those tame yotes yet? :)

HJ: As V2 mentioned the load I was using was over 4000 fps. I didn't have time to chrono them untill after I had used them on a few 'yotes. The issue with them at 4000+ was surface splash on quartering in shoulder shots which is quite common calling. You may actually have a great load at 221 velocities. I'd love to hear about your results.

Also, I sent you a PM a few minutes ago about the RCBS Prep Center I bought from you. Thanks for the great transaction. I appreciate it. tt

Looks like I need the 50's. I think my local shop has them. As for my Coyote's. They're not tame. My Fox is :? . Haven't heard a howl in quite a few weeks, so I picked up a wireless motion detector from the Sportsman Guide and stuck it on the back fence post. I must add it's made in USA  . Last Saturday night I had to turn it off in order to get some sleep  . With the snow on the ground I could see my tame Fox running around. BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP, It's like he was playing with it. I watched him for about a half hour. If it wasn't so warm out lately, I would have popped him  I'll wait till January, then make a coat out of him
