Loctite.....Definitely Loctite

Made it out to slay some prairie dogs on Sunday with my Wife's Uncle. Forecast for 30-35 mph wind was an understatement. More along the lines of 40-45. Gust were recorded in a few parts if North Dakota at 52 or higher. Well either way that's the day the Boss Lady said I could go so I went west. Definitely needed to be shooting into or with the wind. Shooting broadside to wind was pretty much worthless.
I was keeping track of hits and misses with down spent cases for a hit and up for a miss.
Was only hitting about 50 percent, really not even trying to stretch the 204 out at all because of the wind. Then I couldn't really understand why I would score a hit and then have a miss by 2 ft at only 120 or so. Then it dawned on me just as I spotted a triple of pup's line up just like a set of Russian nesting dolls. The whole darn scope turned in the rings as I was trying to increase the scope magnification. 😠

Luckily I was able to run back into Mandan and borrow my wife's uncle's 22-250. Finished out the day with a tad more recoil by nothing I was complaining about.

My Wind string is not Ironed out straight or starched.
Still had plenty of fun. It definitely beats sitting in the house listening to the wind slap the siding.

SC: Almost all the pics you post appear either upside down or sideways when viewed on my desktop or laptop.

Appears there's a problem somewhere......

(And just a suggestion....we've all seen zillions of pics of dead or splattered squirrels and PD's. Most of us are more interested in the scenery, the equipment used and an overall 'being there' experience, rifle, bench, etc. If you've seen one blown up PD, there's really nothing new about posting more.)

Try reducing the size of your pics. I think most are around 100-150kb

Alright. Try this again. Since this from my phone I downloaded an app to be able to downsize the pic. Not sure if it worked. Let me know.

All the pics are good for me but hard to tell on the pics of deceased PD's laying on the ground. LOL. None were upside down anyways

What tri-pod is shown and how stable, etc., is it????

I've shot PD's in 20-25mph winds out in SD, those gusts of wind are pretty tuff to call, but it's still fun burning powder and giving flying lessons.

Sorry for the late response jpx2rk. Covid stuff really put the hurt on a lot of plans and shooting this year and following up on this as well. Its a Caldwell Fieldpod. For throwing it in a backpack its not to bad. I pack a collapsible lawn chair along with it. It does help to position your feet on the legs fore and aft to help mitigate the rocking from recoil even from the 204. Little harder to see your hits but its not something you cant become accustomed to. For longer or sighting in, I have more stable surfaces to use but all in all cant complain. Beside dog adventures I have also used it deer and coyote hunting. It works great for my kids (six and just about eight) both are string beans and I didn't want to scare them or create bad form or habits while learning to shoot.
