Rock chucks

On Tuesday I went out with a couple friends to shoot a few Idaho chucks. We got about 12 of them. It was a really nice morning, clear, no wind, we got a few. Then in the afternoon the wind came up and before long it was blowing pretty hard. The only ones we could see then were between 400 and 600 yds. It was really hard to dope the wind at that disrance over the uneven and boulder strewn ground. Pretty rugged area and could only get to one for a picture. It was taken with the 6 m/m, 70 gr. Varmageddon.

Thanks for the photo, you know we like those. Sounds like a good start for your chuck season and fun. my area should start getting better, as it warms and the clouds and rain sprinkles stop. Bill K :)

Haven't used any of my 204's for chucks lately, as most places I shoot them have ranges not farther than 300 yards. So for this limited range shooting, I"ve been using my 20VT and 221FB, both in Cooper M38's.

Two unwilling chucks shot with my Cooper Phoenix 221FB:

Some underestimate the little Furball, but the damage done by a 40gr NBT to a chucks head belies it's performance (dental work WILL be required here):

Aiming point was 1/2" under his nose. Impact point.....1/2" under his nose....imagine that! If my little Furball did this sort of damage at 225 yards, imagine what a 204 would have done with the bullet travelling almost 1,000 fps faster! Yikes!

Good shooting. I've always wanted a 221 FB.

20 Tactical with the Hornady 24 gr. NTX will make the chucks suffer also.

Yes they are Colorado chucks. Here the ranchers call them whistle pigs.
