I have been invited to help an acquaintance take care of an overly friendly Cougar. It seems it is not afraid of going under his porch after his cats and stalks around his home and property. I have never hunted a Big Cat before so "Any Suggestions!" I will be using a high tech Predator Remote Control call, Have a "Wobbly Wabbit" decoy, camo and Deer, Elk and Coyote scents on hand. I will be taking my 204Ruger and 17Remington, both would do a fine job. Undecided which to use for sure. I will be taking photos and will post - if I can figure out how to post them. On a side note, I shot my first Rock Chuck of the season 2/15/13 (no Sage Rats out as yet) a full grown Female, 17HMR 17gr Winchester Ballistic tip, neck shot, DOA.

Jerry, a friend of mine here just uses his Mini-14, finds their cave, waits outside to nail them. He got this one inside the cave two years ago:
Another good friend has killed over 200 cougars, always uses his trusty Marlin 22 Mag rifle. Can't argue with his success either:
Any good call will work with these cats, just be
sure to watch your back!

Thanks Rick, Good advise. Hopefully he will be watching with me as well. I was concerned about my back also.. maybe my side and front too.

Cougar hunt was a Bust! The fellow had told some guys at his shooting club about the Cougars also and they hit the hills around there with Dogs a few days before I arrived. . so I saw none, no fresh tracks nor any Cougar kills to watch for a return feeding. F.Y.I.

Well, don't that just suck! Sounds like the cat may have had some prior experience with hounds and relocated itself.

Give it some time, Jerry. If it's cat territory, a cat will return after the heat is off if there's tender vittles available. Remember how sneaky cats are.
