The 17 Gr V-Max bullet has about 100 ft/lb of energy at 80 yards when fired from the 17 HM2 rifle while the same 17 grain bullet fired from 17 HMR rifle has 100 ft/lb of energy at 150 yards. About the only thing I hunt with the 17 rimfire rifles is prairie dogs. I limit my shot to where the bullets still about 100 ft/lb of energy. At 100 ft/lb of energy the v-Max bullet will still open up on a p dog.

I am thinking of getting my son a HM2, I have a HMR and love it for what it is.
The report of the HM2, much different than the HMR?
