Fat summer coyote taken.

Post by Ohiolongarm »

Saw him in a field where i was set up ,fresh cut round hay bales, farmer says he sees coyotes randomly. This fat male was strolling along the edge near coverr and unaware of me about 200 yards away. I had the 204 resting over a round bale and could see the coyote plain as day through the 20 power Weaver Grand Slam.I put the crosshairs on his neck and squeezed off a HSM factory 32 grain v-max.The coyote jumped into cover and disappeared. I found a blood trail and recovered him about 50 feet into cover, what a fat dog.The round entered right side and exited leaving substantial material with it.

Good looking coyote. When I shot them with either the 32 lead or the 32 lead free bullets in 20 caliber I have no exits, the bullets just blow inside and the entrance hole barely can be seen. Anywhere from 60 to 300 yrds. Just one example of many coyotes taken over the years.

Now when I use the 55 grain soft points, like this in the Valkyrie or some of my other 224's, can not say the same, opens them up pretty darn good.

You're right the 32 and 26 grain usually stay inside wrecking havoc, but on many neck shots unless you hit the vertebrae it cleans house and goes through. Reason he made it 50 feet didn't know he was running expired.

Even the lead free in the little 17 HMR going inside the chest/lung area of a coyote at 80 yrds does not exit, but from the way the blood flowed out the nose/mouth it sure gelled the insides. Bill K :)

Holy Moly Ohiolongarm, I'd bet there is probably a fawn or two still digesting in that dog. Impressive for a warm season coyote that's for sure.
