Surprise Valley Shoot

Wife went along, but I did a solo shoot the 5th & 6th, the wind was predicted to be high and it was, the alfalfa was just about too tall so I looked for sparse areas and high ground. I shot in several locations finally after 1500 the wind backed off and the squirrels decided to come out and the day ended with 125 at 1930. Monday the wind was calm and I shot from high ground with the Savage 204 out of Fort Bidwell and had a great morning logging another 50 or so before leaving for home by 0930. The alfalfa made retrieving many squirrels tuff so there aren't any photos of them, just quick snapshot before I left.

Yes, I wanted to shoot at 300 about 5 days or so ago but too much mud after 200, now North winds!! but yes let's do a range day.

Brooksb.. Glad it all worked out and you had a good shoot/trip. Slowing down, down here, with the alfalfa getting up and they can be very hard to see, even in the open areas, grass/weeds shooting up also. But still getting a few, worth the trip just to get out. Thanks for sharing. Bill K

Bill I've needed much of an excuse to go shooting or hunting, since retirement I'm still shooting them Squeakers in July.

I can only wish we were still shooting rats in July here, but by then it's so bloody hot, the rats are only up for about an hour first thing in the morning and again in late evening. So if one travels to shoot, you need something to do all day in the heat while Skippy is cooling it down in his burrow.

Our Skippies must be the Southern variety as we seem to have a few more hrs of shootin, but numbers are down for sure.
