Savage 10XP Predator pkg

Post by sniper model 12 »

Anyone have one of these or shot one? I've got a sweet deal worked out at the local shop, but I need a little more info. It will be .243 Win.

Savage doesn't give any detail if it has a heavy barrel or walking barrel. I favor heavy barrels. It looks like the round will get two full rotations before leaving: 1:9.25" with a 22" barrel.

Tell me what ya think!
Thanks guys!

I had one in a 204. Only reason I don't have it now, is that I didn't like the safety. Other than that...IT SHOT. Do I regret it.....kinda.
I now have my eye on the Sav 10 Max1.
Its between the heavy and sporter. The ones who have a 243 in it, seem to really like it.

Thanks for the reply Song Dog.

Was the safety the typical Savage 3 postion tab on the top? The dealer priced this rig at $769 before taxes. Another dealer had a model 10 GXP3 for $689 before taxes.

From what I can tell, the Predator has a heavier barrel. Plus, its already camoed.

I looked at the Max 1.....and it is kick butt. I don't know if I can get a dealer to catch one for me. A couple of dealers want an arm and leg for "special orders". By the time they're done, the ending price is WELL over the MSRP.

I just read a thread in the Center Fire forum and a fella said that the factory scope sucks on the Predator pkgs suck wind. I will see if my dealer can get a Max1. THEN I'll have to find a good scope in my price range! I'd like to get something with more than 9x.

Nikon used to make a nice camoed scope. Not sure of the pattern on the gun or scope so they may not match.

Have you checked with the Sportsman's den in Shelby, Ohio? They have the best deals on guns that I have found. Ask for Paul.

I just got off the phone with the dealer who said the particular pkg he has is in the snow camo pattern with a 4-14x40mm Simmons scope. 4 round external mag with a medium contor barrel.

I haven't seen the snow camo patter up close, but Savage website pic look good. If there is too much white I can paint it out. I'm not sure of Simmons scopes, but it would do for term until my Nikon coyote special arrives.

I have one in 204. It's killed coyote, ferrel cats, skunks, coons, ect. A sweet shooter, naturally accurate. With 39 gr blitzkings and 25 gr RE-10x and the 45 gr Hornady Sp with 24 1/2 gr of the same. The 45 gr load will go through a 1/2 " steel plate at 100 yrd. I hear the barrel is what Savage uses for their 338 mag so it's especially stiff. The composite stock makes it a little light in the rear end, but if you'rer used to shooting poly stocks, it's not a problem. I love mine. Very good shooter...
