We got more snow in the mountains here in Southern California. So I couldn't stand it any longer I asked for a vacation day so I could go do some night hunting. I pulled up a road where I had seen Bob cat tracks weeks ago when it snowed last and set up a stand and started calling it was 12:15am I called untill 12:30 when saw a cat pop out in the open I didn't even have the light on there was some low cloud cover but the moon was so bright above that I could see the cat at 60yrd out with no light and when I looked through the scope it was looking right at me I shot it square in the chest with out the aid of any light. I got it with a 40gr Vmax small entry wound no exit.
I gave one blow on a Primos raspy rabbit call then turned on a cotton tail rabbit tape and let it play low. I was hunting in thick brush with a narrow open strip I was a little worried about attracting a mountain lion and all most gave up it was a little spooky. I couldn't get a hunting partner to go with me. I've found if you find cat tracks in an area you can go back in one case two years and that they are still around.
