Still Too Much Bullet.

As far as i am aware,there is no ban on the sale of skins where we are.The problem is that due to tree hugging hippies in this country(a lot being members of the government),wearing or using fur in this once great country is not acceptable.
Due to this reason the market for fox skins is now non-existant.
I must admit it is sad that good skins are left to rot.Especially as i still remember a time when we could make a nice bit of pocket money selling them.
I dont suppose half the people shooting in the uk now could even skin a fox.
Still this is what some people like to call progress.
Just makes me sad to see stuff going to waste.

At one time here highland furs were giving us £15-20 for a fur which is roughly $30-40. We used to snare more foxes than shoot and in a week we could have caught up to 8 foxes and as they were snared there was no pelt damage, it was a nice bit of money on the side. Its a pity how things have changed that money used to pay for all sorts of bits and pieces for hunting. At the minute I am looking out for a great fox to make into a hanging rug I want one with a nice mixture of black in it hopefully I will track one down this winter.

Ive had good luck using a 22 hornet on fox.
Me thinks the 204 is a bit much for em.
i think the 45 gr sp might be the best bet
as mentioned above.

IF by Solids, you mean FMJ's, Solid bullets are poor choices for hunting bullets. If I am not mistaken, I don't believe we can even use them for hunting here in Alberta. From what I've read and seen that 35gr Berger is fairly hard to beat for a fur friendly load.

As a post script to this thread, I had another shot at a fox about a week ago. Taking the sage advice of some of our 204 brethren from across the pond who hunt a lot of foxes, I loaded up some 32 grain Sierra Blitzkings (over Reloader 10X powder). The fox was feeding on some deer bones about 140 yards away with its left side facing me and slightly quartering away. I held behind the left fore leg and when I fired the fox dropped on the spot. The bullet passed completely through leaving a 3/4 inch exit hole in the pelt . Not ideal, but easily fixed with a little stitching. The fox was an eleven pound female. Her pelt is now drying on a stretcher. Next trial will invovle the 32 grain Hornadys if I can get yet another fox to cooperate .

No this is a 26 gr barnes vt grenade in 20 cal.
This may just enter and not exit a fox sized animal.Time will tell
if they ever get them in that is..
