The 20-250imp.'s First Kill.

Post by 20-250ai »

Image

It only took 10 months to post the pic.

This #1 started life as a .223 Rem. and stacked countless kills on squirrels and crow before burning out and rebarreled.

The only .20 cal 30in barrel Pac-Nor will/has made was chambered and fitted by Keaven Weaver.

This poor old female above came in looking for her pup(kiyi) and found a 40gr. v-max instead 8).

Now rebarreled, the #1 is 9 for 10 in the field on coyotes and although heavy, has become my first choice for puppy poppin.

I only hope I can wear her out one coyote at a time.

That would be a lot of coyotes to wear it out.

How about some more info. Groups, loads, chronograph?

I think you're on to something good.

The rifle is a #1 varmint rebarrel. The Pac-Nor barrel is a 1 in 11 twist polygonal finished at 30inches.

As for the loads, the list is quite small.

Case Win.
Primer Win.
Powder is Win. 760 worked up to 42.2grs.
Bullets were 39 bk's and 40 v-max's (The 39bk's would come apart when pushed passed 4200fps, so I now only use the v-max's)

The final load (42.2) clocked 4515 twelve feet from the muzzel. 42.2 wasn't max, it was the first load that shot in the 3's.(.312 I think) for five at 100 yards so I stoped there.

Yes, I think It'll do. 20-250ai

Doesn't matter what caliber or finish, those No. 1's are sexy beeches.

Love my Ruger No. 1 Stainless varminter in 204. :)

I wanted to check out the ballistics on that round - the calculator I use doesn't even go that high! It stops at 4300. All I could find is that your getting 1811 ft lbs at the muzzle.

SWEET RIG! Are you fire forming (after neck sizing/trimming) from .250 Savage brass?

I was thinking of doing something like that...................a friend of mine in Las Vegas built a custom .20 BR. He was getting an average of 4660 fps.

Congrats on the First Blood.
When your attack is going well you are about to be ambushed.

ai,

Have you tried 50 grain Berger bullets? That just could be a dream come true. Probably over 4,000 fps with a fantastic BC.

try this site .204 sniper. it goes to 4500.

Hotshot,
I'll try 50's if someone comes out with a v-max or bk in that weight otherwise the 40 v-max rules with a bc of .275. (B.K.'s have a higher B.C.(.287) but come apart over 4200fps.

I think Hornady has a 45gr V-Max now. :chin:

The only Hornady 45gr offering that I'm aware of is an SP and the BC is .245.

20-250AI; I see from the picture that you are a left hand shooter. I own two No. 1's for the same reason. What kind of tuning did you do to your gun to get it to group properly and how did the 39 grain Sierras and the 40 grain Hornadys perform on coyotes? Did they leave large exit holes in the pelts or blow up inside the animals?

Hi Singleshot,
Your right that I am a south paw BUT I do prefur righthanded bolt guns :? .
The ejecter/extractor was set to just move the case out, this will eleminate the tention problem. I had Keven Weaver bed the forend to the end of the hanger then float the rest, it worked like a charm. :D

I only use the 40gr. v-max as the 39BK's fly appart above 4200 As for the 40's on coyotes they did o.k. IF they aren't pups. 2out of12 have had pelt damage, both were small and young dogs.
