22 hornet results

Post by jason »

my brother inlaw shoots a ruger stainless heavy barrel in 22 hornet and has been trying different load and found one that really works good for him and he wanted to post it:
40 grain vmax
11 grains of IMR 4227
CCI 400
O.A.L-1.850
4 shot groups at 100 yards will all be touching
4 shot groups at 200 yards are within 1/2 inch

He's tried many different powders, but the IMR 4227 is by far the best!!

Jason: Sounds like your bro-in-law has found a good Hornet load. I've shot Hornets of various configurations for a long time, and have found that out of todays available powders, that AA-1680 is about the best in every Hornet I've tried. This includes 22 Hornet, 22 K-Hornet, and the .17 Ackley Hornet.

Tell him to try it; it meters like water, gives very good velocities with any bullet suitable for that case, and always turns in the best accuracy in every rifle I've ever compared it in.

Here's my Kimber 22 K-Hornet in the field:

Here's how AA-1680 works in the .17 Ackley Hornet:

From the standard (boring) Hornet case, into something really interesting:

Here's a Browning Low Wall in 22 K-Hornet on groud squirrels:

Most smiths don't charge much for running a K-Hornet reamer into a standard Hornet, and you get less brass stretching (longer life) better accuracy, and about 150 - 200fps more speed, a good deal all around. Your b-i-law might like the change.... ;)
