Junior Scores!

Bit of a late start this morning, but the lad was still holding a doe tag, and we know where we can usually find a few hanging out... Drove up to the plateau, shoved it into four-low for a bit, then parked and walked. He was hunting, I was there as his guide more or less. He had a chance at a doe almost immediately, at about 250 yards, but the shot was almost straight into the sun and couldn't be accomplished before she slipped away.
Hiked & hunted our way up another canyon, to an isolated spring where we've found deer several times over the years. Once again, we found deer. Junior was unable to take the long shot because of intervening brush, and carefully stalked closer. At about 75 yards, he took a knee, and sent the 100 gr Nosler Solid Base zipping downrange at about 3,000 fps from his 6mm Remington. The little doe collapsed instantly!
All that was left was to clean her, drag her down to what passed for the "road." Then drive her to my friend's barn for skinning. It was a great, fun, simple, and rewarding father-son hunt. We both feel pretty darned good about it. Between the two of us, we've got three deer down this year. A good year indeed!
Regards, Guy
