I picked up my mount of a buck I shot last fall on opening day of the firearms season here in Illinois. Here are a few pictures.

He's on the left. The other one I shot in 2003 with a muzzleloader.

Here is my first deer I shot back in 1975.

Here is a closer look at the others. Shot this one in IL. in 1979.

Got this one in Mo. in 1990 with a .270. My wife put the woodpecker on the deer, says it gives it charactor.

Muzzleloader in IL. in 2003.

Here are the ones that weren't big enough to live in the house.

Here are some of our turkeys my son and I have been fortunate to harvest.

Melvin, thanks for sharing the pictures. You have some beautiful deer mounts for sure. I thought that I noticed at least one doe on the wall as well. May I ask the significance of the doe(s)? Did you mount her for aesthetic purposes or does she have some personal significance? She looks good on the wall with the others, I was more curious than anything else.

Again, fantastic collection!

Danged nice deer, Melvin! There are lots of peckerwoods in Missouri, so that bird IS appropriate! I don't know how many times they've bugged me, out in the Missouri woods, although bluejays are worse for giving away the hunters.

I guess you've had a busy summer, we haven't seen much of you around here. Don't be a stranger!

Mike,

The doe in the picture is the first deer my son Lucas shot with a shotgun here in IL. The picture below was taken back in 2006 and has Lucas's first bow kill deer at age 15 (1996). He started off right. His deer is the one in the lower left. It was a 10 point and field dressed at 255 lbs. I went to the farm store and bought a set of scales so we could weigh it.

Image

I was looking back through some of my pictures and thought I would share a few with you. Here is one of Lucas and I with a coyote that we and my nephew Jason called in near Marfa, Texas in May 2005. Shot him at 250 yards with my .220 swift (pre .204 days)
Image

Here's a hog Lucas shot at 189 yards with my .270 while in Marfa.
Image

The last morning we were there, I took a picture of Lucas just as it was getting light. We were just sitting enjoying the sunrise while waiting to get light enough to start calling coyotes.
Image

Here is Lucas (left) and Jason with Jason's first spilled blood with his AR. I think he picked it up on a Tuesday and we left for Texas on Thursday.

I guess I'd better quit reminiscing and hogging the board.

glenn,

I've been watching the board, I've just been busier than a sick cat in a litter box this summer with my son buying a place of his own, getting him moved in and now we're getting ready for his wedding this weekend.

Melvin, thanks for the info. You and Lucas are very fortunate to spend so much time enjoying the outdoors together. I can't speak for others, but I certainly enjoy seeing the pictures that you post on here. Thanks for sharing.

Melvin, hog the board all you like, those pictures are great and I doubt anyone else will mind a bit!

I got to meet Melvin last year. He was coming to a gunshow here in town, and I made arrangements to meet him there. We had a fine chat, and he's a heckuva nice guy, as you can probably guess from his posts.
