I have said this more than once in my lifetime and the .243 caliber is the smallest I would ever use or suggest to someone as a proper deer caliber. My wife used her model 70 Winchester (coyote rifle) featherweight in .243 to kill whitetail deer after have her surgery one year. I myself like my lever gun for the woods in the form of the .444-Marlin and my .270 Winchester for across those bean fields but that is just me ok! I personally believe we owe it to the animal to kill it quickly and without the high odds of something going wrong with to small of a caliber or bullet.
Congrats on your successful hunt!

One word: irresponsible.....or maybe "reckless"
In our youth all of us do things which turn out OK, but in years to come we look back and see those actions for what they were.....
I'm glad it worked out this time......for the sake of the animal. If "success" this time encourages repeating this, then it wasn't a "success."
