ruger 77 all weather ultralite
Ok so I changed my mind on the 308 and am getting the ultralite in 06 I like the handling charicteristics of the little gun and I have one in 204.Keep things simple get used to the same feel.Im hunting in some steep nasty country anyways so Ill not miss the weight. All my shots will be withing 400yds and 90 percent of that will be within 300yds .I think the little gun will be up to it.Once I make a few little changes.Has anyone on this site owned the little 06 and if so what can you tell me about it.

You better rethink the 308. The ul long actions don't feel the same as the shorts. If the 'feeling' of your 204 is what you are after, stick with a short action cal. My take....Don

Glenn: I've gotta agree with huntsman, as the short action will be lighter too, and the overall handling qualities of the rifle will be more suited to hunting steep terrain.
Also, if most of your shots are 300 with the occasional one at the 400 yard mark, the .308 win will be completely suited to the task.
I own both calibers, have hunted with both, so have no axe to grind with either, I just feel for what you originally stated you were seeking, the .308 would be your best choice in the Ultralight.

But they do in 7/08....... And it'll do anything the 308 will. I have a limited run model in the targetgrey finish. Sweet piece. Don
