pig hunting

Post by sgp5163 »

I live in southern Calif. I was looking for a new place to pig hunt. I know the usual areas, Hunter liggett and the like. I was hunting a ranch in Fresno. We bagged pigs everytime we went out. Unfortunately it's not availble any longer. Any one know an area where the ranchers are receptive to hunters Central Calif. or above?

During a period when I lived in the Bay Area, I also hunted HL, but we had better pig hunting around the Hollister area, and up in both Mendicino and Humbolt counties. Lots of Russian Razorbacks in both areas. The largest I shot there was a big boar that weighed 472 lbs.

We started out using rifles, then went to handguns, mostly .44 Mags, but were having trouble either nicking, or wounding a dog, so near the end of my hog days, we went to using WWI bayonets (the nice long ones) while the dogs had the hog occupied. "Fun in the mud and blood" we used to call it.

I know that's a drive for you, but that's the best I can offer. Good luck with the quest.
