Another deer to look at while we wait for the snow to quit

Post by bullfrog »

Here's a mule deer I took 3 years ago in Eastern Montana. It was the narrowist of our group, but I really liked it because it was heavy, and had good mass. This was by far the biggest bodied deer I've ever shot.
Each year when I go to Montana with some buddies for deer, we ask permission to hunt this particular ranch. As you can see in the background, it is some awesome country. However, this particular year was the only time we were given permission. I must have seen over 150 deer that morning before I shot this one, and I shot this one at about 8:00 am. Maybe next year he'll say yes again. :chin:

Awesome buck, beautiful country. You gotta love fall! My all-time favorite time of year is from mid-September through mid-November. I live for those three months!

Huntsman22: Your nephew sure did well; bet he made his uncle proud. That's a fine mulie buck in anyone's book.

But holy cr--p! What a monster buck the second old boy is! He qualifies for Deerzilla!!

Check out this hawg. This is the deer that was taken with the 2006 Utah Sportsman's Tag. Each year the Utah DWR has a special drawing for every big game species in the state. There is one tag issued for each species, 1 bull elk, 1 buck deer, 1 big horn sheep and so on. The lucky guy who draws the tag gets to hunt that species from mid-September until December 31st with any legal weapon, state-wide on public land. Utah is about 66% public land. The odds of drawing this tag are slim to nothing, no bonus points or preference points. You just put your name in the hat and some lucky guy is going to have the hunt of a lifetime. The DWR also auctions off one of these tags each year to raise funds. The bull elk and buck deer tags usually sell for well into the six figures. Anyway, here is the buck. Don't drool too much on your keyboards!
