Did you give up on the 204 or did you find better ammo? I know my AR likes those 40 gr factory Hornadys.

Hi surefire. No. I love my 204, but my Remington 700 is a finicky thing. About the only thing it will shoot to my satisfaction is the 32 grain pills. The other stuff shoots ok, about an inch or little more but I like my rifles to shoot sub 1/2 moa or they find a new home. The only load I've found that will do that is with 32 varmageddon's behind benchmark. The 35's come close. Jim D

Thanks, JD. I was getting a little worried you were giving up on the 204. My 700 likes 32 gr SBKs. I'm planning on going pdog shooting soon with an old AF buddy of mine.

That's great. What state are you going to? I'm 63 and a little handi-capped and got to go on my first PD shoot last year in north Texas, a long trip from home, 9 1/2 hours. I'm supposed to go back this August if I can. Never had so much shooting fun. I don't know what's considered a lot but I went through 450 rounds in 2 days with a pair of AR's. Hope you have a great time. JD

Both of my 700's like the 39 SMK's.

Hi Jim. I sure wished mine liked the 39's. Tried them with RL 10X and 8208 without much success. I haven't tried your favorite yet, RL 15, but just might. Do you have a good starting point for me with primers & powder weight. It's a 26" heavy 1-12 twist barrel, super long throat, Jewell trigger, in a B&C M40 stock. Thanks, Jim D

Apologies for the delayed response.
For my 700’s the following worked best for me but you’ll have to try them out and tweak as necessary. Actually, I’d try the whole recommended powder range in .2gr increments if time and component availability allows. All are with RP brass, Sierra 39ge SBK, and Remington 7 ½ primers with a factory 204 chamber [very long lead]. All loads were tested at 200 yards.
H4895:
- Rifle #1: 27.7gr to 28.0gr all gave under ½” groups.
- Rifle #2: 27.5gr gave <½” groups at 200 yards.
- CZ-527: 27.8 gr gave 1/4” groups at 200 yards.
Reloader 15
- Rifle #1: 27.9gr gave <½” groups at 200 yards.
- Rifle #2: 27.9gr gave <½” groups at 200 yards.
- CZ-527: 28.1 gr gave 1/4” groups at 200 yards.
Benchmark
- Rifle #1: 25.6gr gave <½” groups at 200 yards.
- Rifle #2: 25.6gr gave <½” groups at 200 yards.
- CZ-527: Haven’t tried
Reloader 10x
- Rifle #1: 25.3gr gave ½” groups at 200 yards.
- Rifle #2: Haven’t tried
- CZ-527: Haven’t tried
8208xbr:
- Rifle #1: Couldn’t hit a bull in the butt with a base fiddle, no matter what combo I tried.
- Rifle #2: Haven’t tried
- CZ-527: Couldn’t hit a bull in the butt with a base fiddle, no matter what combo I tried.
You’ll notice that most of these loads are at the high end, so work up and test in the conditions that you’ll be shooting in and if you switch powder LOTS be sure to re test and tweak the powder charge as necessary.

Jim, wow!, that's a lot of great information. Thank you so very much. That will keep me busy for awhile because I have all powders & primers listed except my cases are Norma. Thanks again,
Jim D

Oh...another caveat is, I neck size only with 2-3 thousands of neck tension.
