Just a tidbid for consideration. Leupold just introduced a less expensive version of their primo Mark 4 Scopes, the new Mark 2. Many power configurations available, very rugged I'm told. Looks like the hot setup for a coyote rig that may see rough use, a truck rifle, etc.

Intended for the AR platform (hunting/tactical), but will work on any rifle.

If you want to check it out (top address has image, website: no image yet):

Mike: I talked to my buddy at the factory today, and here's the scoop on the new Mark-2's:

"The Mark 2 scopes provide a tactical product for agencies or individuals who can't afford the full-on Mark 4 LRT. Prices run $400 - $600 depdning on model and reticle. These are great scopes, basically VX-II's with short target adjustments. They would make good hunting scopes."

There you have it, straight from the factory. It appears they would be ideally suited for "2nd Rifles", truck rifles, or for those who don't want to (or are unable to) pony up for the Mark-4's or VX-III's.

This makes a lot of sense in my opinion, and is the same approach that Nikon camera lenses takes.

For example they have four levels of 35-70 zoom lenses ranging in price from $300 to $1500. This way from Susan to Pro-Journalism, you have a product that fits the needs of the user, and provides the quality required to get the job done in their budget. I personally appreciate pro-level optics in my camera's and scopes. Good camera lenses produce quality results:

However, there really needs to be a best scope in that $400 to $600 level that is capable. It's always been a rule of thumb that one should spend at least as much for the scope as you do for the rifle, particularly if you get full value for your scope dollar! Let's hope that this new line fills that requirement.
