I saw you had considered the SIII, but the price was high. Have you looked into the SII big sky series? I'll be ordering a 12FCV in .204 tomorrow morning, and I've already got a big sky 6-20 for it waiting in a drawer. I haven't hunted with it yet, and I won't pretend I know alot about expensive scopes, but I did mount it up to my 10/22 just to have a look around the neighborhood, and I was blown away by the clarity. It also has a very fine reticle and dot for shooting tiny things very far away, and if I remember, there is a second reticle option that's more standard. Anyway, check it out, from what I researched before I bought it, the optics are right along side Leupold and the other big boys.

The nice thing about the Leu VX3L scopes is a large objective that sits down closer to the barrel so you won't need a cheek pad. I put one on my IKON and love it.
