Well. here she is. All dolled up and nowhere to go . Anybody know where I can get ammo . Midway is out of the 120gr Ballistic tips . Soon I will have a custom 204 barrel for it. I'm currently waiting on the chamber specs for a Douglas in 204 from SSS. If they don't get back to me soon a Lilja it will be. Can't wait to shoot this barrel burner

Why not use the 139-142 grain at 3100/3200 and stretch things out to the 1000 yard line with this rifle?

I'm not sure what bullet weight i'm gonna reload yet. I just wanted some Factory ammo to break her in.I will be a few weeks before I get all my reloading supplies. I ordered some Nosler Custom 6.5-284 Norma 125gr Partition's from Midway.
Anybody know the difference between the 6.5-284 Norma and 6.5-284 Winchester??

No, it's not touching. The picture makes it look that way. It's centered. I didn't think anybody would notice that.Good eye!! It's just leaning to the right.

That is a sweet rifle you have there. If you don't know already 6mmbr.com has a whole page devoted to the 6.5.x284 with some real good information. It looks like they give the nod to the 142 gr. Sierra Match Kings. You might want to give those a try. Whatever you do, take that thing out to 600 yards and give her a spin before you change her out. You might just decide to blue print that action and keep her as she is with a good custom barrel. You could always get another sacrificial rifle or better yet build one from scratch. We would all love to help you do a project rifle.

Don't worry, I'll shoot plenty of 284's before the 204 bbl gets here. Rumor has it we have a 600 yard public range within a few hours drive.

That is one nice lookin' rifle. Is that a Savage stock or after market. Pictures I saw in Shooting Times had a different stock. You must give us reports as you test, Please.

UPS tracking says my ammo will be here Friday . Only 20 rounds though. 5 at 100, 5 at 200, and 10 at 300 yards. Can't wait . Expect a range report Saturday afternoon.I guess the original stock didn't go over very well, so they changed it to what you see in the picture. [/b]

Will your cases have the rebated rim like the 284 Win? Or are these a 6.5x55 case that is named .284 because it is stateside?

Here are the specs. The pencil dimensions are 6.5-284 Winchester. Printed dimensions are 6.5-284 Norma . And they tell me their the same

Sweet Rifle. I think the new stock design was worth the wait. There are slight differences between the Norma and Win chambers. The Norma chamber is slightly larger. Win chambers sometimes have difficulty chambering Norma and Lapua brass. I believe Win chambers are pretty much obsolete so you need'nt worry about that.

You should mic up the necks of your factory ammo and handloads too of course. That Savage does not have your usual sloppy factory neck. You just may need to turn necks on thicker brass. .003 clearance is recommended minimum on the 6.5 Happy Shootin.

PS that sure looks like a nice frame for switchbarrel customs.
