I picked up 1,000 remington 9 1/2mag primers the other day at the local shop to do done loads for future father in laws 300wsm and was wondering if I could use them in my swift as well? I've read some say yes others say no. I have no loads worked up so I'd be starting with a clean slate.

Not sure why anyone would tell you to NOT use that primer in the Swift. Was that person even a handloader? Of course you can use the 9-1/2 primer for your Swift loads. It's actually one of the ideal primers with its thicker cup material for the Swift.

Watch what other local "experts" tell you. There's no substitute for owning at least three loading manuals; cross reference loads between manuals to arrive at an intelligent loading decision, and not to rely on so-called "expert advice" from questionable sources.

Questions like this are easily answered by READING the manuals. :chin:

It was I read off other forums. Thanks guys I figured the thicker cup maybe better over the regular 9 1/2 primer.

savageboy, you may want to refer to this for future reference:

Best advice of all: READ before you load. Good luck with your Swift, be safe. (Mine loves RL-15 & 55gr NBT)

PLEASE try other powders, but IMR4064, in most cases, is one of, if not THE powder, for Swifties!

I've read IMR 4064 is a great swift powder as it is for the 243. My other choice will be varget.

Don't have a SWIFT but the 9 1/2 M is a good primer as is the 9 1/2.
