So where do you guys with custom rifles insure them? I have insurance for my other guns through my homeowner's insurance, but they wont insure a full custom rifle. I am sure there are good places to insure custom firearms, just wondering where I should look next. Thanks!

Talk to your agent about a stand-alone policy just for your collectables. If you have an approved safe and store some nice custom rigs in it, you can get a policy that will just cover that safe and it's contents. It won't be as cheap as the rider on your homeowners insurance for your existing guns, but you'll have the peace of mind that at least you've done all you can to protect them.

You can also contact the NRA for insurance companies that specialize in just this sort of thing if your current agent weenies out on custom gun coverage.

Thanks. Yeah checking with the NRA was my next step and yes my current agent doesn't want to deal with any custom guns. I do have a good gunsafe but it would be nice to be covered when I'm out in the field.

I'm not much help for you because my homeowner's insurance covers custom firearms, but they have to be listed. Same thing for expensive jewelry with my company. I'd just advise you to check with some other companies to see if they would cover you under a separate policy. Good luck.

I've thought about this too but I would be afraid to list them out, for many reasons.

I don't have custom rigs, but if I did, my insurance policy would be a top of the line vault door on my fire-proof walk-in gun room. Spend the money there if you have already spent the money on the custom rigs. I will just guess with the premuin to individually insure a modest collection each year, you could add another shooter to the collection. I know of a couple guys around here that have gone that direction and their collections aren't custom guns.

Custom or not....replacement price adds up quick.

Most of my rifles have optics on top.....that are worth more than the rifle!

Both of my 6.5x55 AI Savages would cost in excess of 2500 to replace. No, I do not have that much in them....but to replace them....yes.

30" stainless, high quality barrel blank = $400
Stock - 200-300
Single shot action - $500
Miscellaneous - trigger, base, rings, stainless recoil lug - $200
Gunsmith services - chamber, thread, crown - $250??
Leupold Mark 4 - $1500

ugh....about 3150!!!

Does not really matter the caliber.

Add a McMillan or other higher end stock - add $300 to $500.
