I haven't found any data for a 40 grain bullet and Win748. However the Hornady Seventh edition manual does list it for the 45 grain Hornet bullet on up thru the 60 grain bullets.

45 gr Hornet bullet, #2230, Min 25.5 gr, 3100 fps, Max 28.6 grains, 3400 fps.
50 V-Max, #22261, Min 24.5 gr. 2900 fps, Max 28.3 gr. 3400 fps.
55 V-Max, #22271, Min 22.7 gr. 2800 fps, Max 26.4 gr. 3200 fps.

With the loads above, you have some ballpark data. If I were doing it, I would start out in the middle of the 45 grain bullet range and work up slowly until you find a good load. Hope this helps.

Just looked in the new Nosler manual:
Nosler 40 gr. BT, Min 26.0 gr. 3304 fps, Max 28.0 gr. 3547 fps. 100% load density.
Nosler lists the 28.0 grain load as being the most accurate load out of all the powders tested.
The test rifle had a Lilja 24" barrel with a 1-12" twist. So, not sure how accurate they will be in a black rifle with a quicker twist.

So, there you have it. Maybe I will try some Win748.
