223 Ackley Improved

Post by Dennis81082 »

Anyone using mid sixty (60 to 70) grain bullets in a 223 AI?

If so what are you loading and results on coyotes.

What twist rate is your barrel?

Have not shot any coyotes (or AT any either! :) )

Accuracy and speed has been excellent with 50/55 gr VMax, 52 gr HPBT, 69 gr HPBT's, and 75 gr AMax.

I posted late last nite and didn't think to include the twist. It's a 1/8. I have 62, 64, 65 and 69gr on hand with plenty of different powders.

Wanted to see if anyone was using the same.

I use H4895 for the heavier bullets. Benchmark for the 55's. RL15 produces very good groups as well, but is not good in a wide variety of temperature swings (I load when it is hot....but can shoot when it is cold....so I stay with the Extreme powders from Hodgdon).

Thanks for the info.

I'm planning on trying H4895, Varget, and BLC2. Should find something that will work.

I have not had a chance to shoot a coyote with my .223AI and 60gr pills but I hope to remedy that this weekend. I am getting 3640 with 52gr HPBT and H4895 with acceptable accuracy out of a 22" tube. Benchmark and TAC have done well with lighter bullets and will speed the 40gr BT at 3855. Varget and H4895 have given me the best results with 60gr V-Max and BT but I have not shot them over the chrono yet.
