VA Varm: All true, and the reason I have
THREE 204's......but I'll always own a Swift too. At around 500 - 600 yards, there's nothing quite like the Swift's 55gr bullet at almost 3,800 fps on a rock chuck sticking his head up on his rock pile with the wind always being a factor here in the West. That's when terminal performance comes in on the larger varmints, and the 55gr bullet just has more energy on target at extended ranges, plain and simple.
Like you, I could get by for the rest of my varmint smacking days with 204's only, but variety is the spice of life, and I just like having lots of varmint calibers, the need can be real or imagined, it's just neat having choices when I open the safe for a varmint foray. 17 Ackley Hornet to the 6mm's, it's all good. Same reason for deer or antelope, even elk..... I can grab a .270 Win all the way up to my .330 Dakota....it's all good. Dead is dead, but it's more like "what do I want to hunt with today?"
Me? I've always got my rose-colored glasses on. Any day we wake up is a good day, but I'll skip the Kool-Aid, thanks.
(I'll freely admit though, that for what I do in the varmint patch, I'd much rather shoot my 204's all day than my Swift......)
