Re: lets talk powder.....

I've tried a couple of loads with BLC-2, H335, H and IMR 4895, Varget, RL15. I finally got my hands on some CFE 223 and it has by far out performed every other powder I tried. I had groups from 0.70 to 1.4 inches with most of those powders and my first try with the CFE 223 produced great groups out ...

Re: Shot Shell Reloading

I have a 600 Jr. in 410. Sizemaster in the rest, plus the 8567 in 12. I've owned MEC loaders since 1975 and have zero bad things to say about them. Any "O" metalic press is good unless you are going for progressive. I've only done that with pistol, but not since about 1998 or so, but a PW ...

Re: The Challenge Begins!

Put my target in the mail today. Since Skipper is ~60 miles away, I hope that USPS gets it to him by the end of the week. I know it is not anywhere near the top, but have to say I am happy with it (finally). 10 Ring in Houston got in some CFE 223 and it was the magic bullet (so to speak). My last pr...

Re: The Challenge Begins!

I promise to get my target in. I hate that I've been so late, but a bunch of crap has happened in late July and August. I think I'll make it to butt in Houston next week unless they have been flooded. I want to do some 300+ yard shooting with my 308 too, so can maybe kill more birds. Good luck to ev...

Re: The Challenge Begins!

I'm still working on it. My last range time my FIL got attacked by dogs on his morning walk. I was able to shoot some, but none that I was happy with. I'll try later this week (I hope). I was able to pick up some Pro Varmint to try with my 32 gr. VMax, 39 gr. BK and 32 gr. Varmageddon. Wish me luck.

Re: The Challenge Begins!

Just by chance, when you say two failures, is it the zip rod slipping ? My first set did that, but I learned to tighten that nut tight and have never had a issue since. I also have and use, some oldies i.e. C&H 30-06, the die set I started with in about 1953, when I started reloading. But since...

Re: The Challenge Begins!

I wished I had some CFE 223 or Pro Varmint, BUT that just gives me another two powders to fool with. Haha I have quite a few primed cases, so I should be able to wait until my new sizing die comes in. I'm glad you have had good luck with the Hornady Custom Dies, but I've had two failures in a year w...

Re: The Challenge Begins!

I was able to get to the range and fire off some test loads. I like 10 shot groups for testing. I think I am eliminating the 39 gr. BK bullets. I shot some 32 gr. Varmageddon and they show some promise. While at the range, I got a text from my wife that her Dad had been attacked by dogs during his m...

Re: The Challenge Begins!

I think I will make my first trip to the range on Friday. Rain plus throwing a belt on my mower complicated things. Finally got the belt replaced and was welcomed with 8 acres of very high grass that had to be taken care of. I'm doing some load work ups and won't have my "official" target ...

Re: The Challenge Begins!

I had my post surgery follow-up on Monday and have been given approval to shoot most things. I came prepared with a Free Recoil chart for most of my rifles. My Vascular surgeon might not be a shooter, but he does understand Physics. He said to stay away from my 9.3 X 62 (40 ft.-lbs Free Recoil). lol...

Re: *Attention Members* Summer of 2021 Five Shot Challenge

PM Sent. I am so glad to see that the shooting times have been extended. I just had a right Carotid endarterectomy (Roto-Rootered my right Carotid Artery) performed on June 1st. I am still in the recovery phase and not sure how long it will be before I get clearance to start shooting shoulder fired ...

Re: five on a Dime shoot ??

I would like to do it, but am having Carotid Open neck surgery next Tuesday on my right Carotid artery (Carotid Endarterectomy). Recovery is several weeks regarding shooting, but should be able to handle the .204 a little sooner. Probably full time recovery for my 9.3 X 62. :D I'll check in more oft...

Re: 32 gr. Nosler Varmageddon

Ok...first of all, thanks for all the responses. I have looked locally (for the CFE223) and even tried some on-line powder resources for an 8 lb. jug. No Bueno' as to availability. The Hodgdon site is even showing it "Temporarily out of Stock". I haven't reloaded for .223 in many years, so...

32 gr. Nosler Varmageddon

Anyone have a favorite powder for this bullet?

Thanks in advance.
