varminter,
What model is it? If it's not one of the Savage target action rifles I'd be very happy with 3/8".

Re: Factory loads from a Tikka .204 Varmint
If my gun doesn't like 40 grain is the 39 going to make a difference? The 39 BK is a bit shorter than the 40 V-Max. http://wrzwaldo.org/koolaid/39_40_40.jpg If you get a chance you should try and measure the actual twist rate of your barrel. You may find (like I did) that the twist is actually a li...

Re: Can someone enlighten me on "barrel twist rates"?
Twist rate is usually determined by the bullet/s you plan on shooting. Heavier bullets are usually longer and need a quicker spin to stabilize. In simplistic terms it's the length-to-diameter ratio that is used to determine the optimum twist rate for a given bullet. If you desire more info try a Goo...

Squatting Wolf,
I used the 40 grain load data for the 39BK. For my XR-100 I ended up at 27.7 grains of RL-15 and BR4 primers.

Okay, I had our resident BR official measure it today. .109 I am still amazed. I wish I had shot a five shot group now. Matt I'm sure you misundertood what your "resident BR official" said. I'm certain he said/meant .109 "Average to Center" which is not the group size. The group...
