Re: New Project - Building a "black rifle"

I got some additional information from John at White Oak Armament and I think I'm almost decided on the 6mm WOA. It uses 6.8 Remington SPC brass necked down to 6mm. In a 24" barrel the light 70-75 gr varmint bullets will run about 3250-3350 fps, 107 grainers about 2700. From the information tha...

New Project - Building a "black rifle"

Well after my trip to Nebraska prairie dog hunting, I decided I "needed" to add a semi-auto to the collection. Several of the guys had AR's on the trip and it looked like it was a blast to shoot a semi-auto and skippy. I picked up a Rock River lower with a set trigger. The standard trigger...

Re: Leaving in the morning for my 1st prairie dog hunt!

Here's a few more pictures of the carnage that I missed when I initially did the write up! Warning the following picture are pretty graphic! This was actually my 1st kill! http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s290/mjweste/2008%20Prairie%20Dog%20Hunt/IMG_1501.jpg Little more carnage... http://i155.phot...

Re: Going to Start working up a load for 39 grain Sierra's

Thanks for the info everyone. I'll have to get some H4895 at some point and give that a try but for now I've got a pound of the other three Hodgon powders I listed above. doctor duck Did you find that info on Hodgon's website or in their reloading book? I've been using Remington 7 1/2 primers with m...

Going to Start working up a load for 39 grain Sierra's

Now that I'm back from my trip, I am going to work up another load, this time using the 39 grainers from Sierra. I have a pretty good load worked up for the 32 grain Hornaday's usine 26.6 grains for H322. I have 3 powders to try out which include H322, Benchmark & BL-C(2). I've checked Hodgdon's...

Re: Leaving in the morning for my 1st prairie dog hunt!

Rick - you aidn't a kidding you can go broke shooting these little devils. Like you mentioned fuel along costs a ton when you have to drive 800 miles one way to go hunting! Oh well, it was extremely fun and well worth the cost. The trip got a little more expensive when my buddy called looking to se...

Re: Leaving in the morning for my 1st prairie dog hunt!

dannybracy The LRPV was a blast to shoot and it made long distaces relatively easy (especially when the wind cooperates). Everyone I was with loved it as well. Now that I have a little down time, I am going to start working up some loads for the 39 grainers. I might try some 25 grain Bergers as wel...

Re: Leaving in the morning for my 1st prairie dog hunt!

Just to give everyone a quick update, we all survived and had a blast! We are planning on heading back next spring for sure and maybe again sometime this summer/fall if a few of us can get away from work. I'm in the middle of frying up a pan of morel mushrooms and grilling burgers so I'll do a write...

Re: Leaving in the morning for my 1st prairie dog hunt!

dannybracy - I'm looking forward to taking some long shots at the PD's. i've been doing some 300-400 yard shots at milk jugs which is fun but just not the same as the real thing! Melvin - we will be shooting between Sidney & Oshkosh, NE. Looks like I'm going to be a couple hundred miles due wes...

Re: custom rifle disasters

Dang, your luck is about as good as mine! I'm thinking about putting together a custom rifle this fall (modeling the Remington M24) and I'm hoping similar things don't happen. I'm even more affraid of spending all that cash on quality components and then having a gunsmith hose it up! Good luck on yo...

Leaving in the morning for my 1st prairie dog hunt!

Well the time has finally come, I'll be headed out west to Nebraska for my 1st prairie dog hunt. Many of you probably remember that I was supposed to go on a hunt last year that never happend (although I got some sweet gear out of the deal). I'll be headed out tomorrow and will spend a majority of t...

Winchester Supreme 22lr Match Ammo

Has anyone had any experience with this stuff? I picked some up over the weekend to give it a try and my Mark II Savage seemed to like it but my Anschutz wasn't that excited about it. I'll post some pictures of the results in the next day or so. I took the .22 with me while I was dialing in the .204...
