Picked up a new range finder

Well I went up to the new Cabelas in Hoffman Estates, IL and while I was there I picked up a new range finder among other things. I was looking at either the Nikon Monarch 800 or the Leica Rangemaster CRF 900. The first one I tried was the Leica, the optics were very clear and easy to use. After ran...

Re: New Model Super Blackhawk - not a shooter!

acloco , I do reload and was planning on getting dies and components for the .44 Mag along with my .41 Mag. I've got everything else I need, just have to get the dies. I was planning on using the 240 grain Keith bullet at least as a starting point, however I've held off ordering the dies after my t...

Re: New Model Super Blackhawk - not a shooter!

glenn asher, Thanks for the info. I"ll definitely have a gunsmith check it out. I will also give Ruger's Service department a call. Like Rick said, I've got my Smith for deer season so I'm not too worried about it. I was just disappointed after both trips to the range. Rick You are right, some...

New Model Super Blackhawk - not a shooter!

I took the Ruger out that I picked up a week or so ago and it is not a shooter. I tried several different types of ammo (specials and magnums) and just to make sure I wasn't crazy, I let a couple others give it a try. The best we could do is 7-8 inch groups at 25 yards. We were shooting off a handgu...

Re: Looking at possibly picking up a Ruger Blackhawk in .44 Mag

Rick: I definitely planned on researching the loads in my reloading manuals prior to cranking out a bunch of rounds. You've given me some good ideas on what components to try and now I'll work up some loads and see what she likes! Skipper: I jumped on Ruger's website and judging from the serial num...

Re: Looking at possibly picking up a Ruger Blackhawk in .44 Mag

Rick, Thanks for checking that site out for me, I was thinking I had found the right bullet but wanted to make sure. It's also good to know that Leadheads is known for high quality cast bullets. I think I'll start out by trying your load with the 250gr Keith bullet and Unique powder with a standard ...

Re: Looking at possibly picking up a Ruger Blackhawk in .44 Mag

Rick, I think I might have found the Keith 250gr SWC bullets online at Leadhead Bullets. Below is the link, if you get a minute could you see if I'm looking at the right thing? Thanks again! https://secure25.securewebsession.com/proshootpro.com/order.htm I'm looking at PM44-250 Keith .429-.430-.431 ...

Re: Looking at possibly picking up a Ruger Blackhawk in .44 Mag

Rick I haven't gotten into casting my own bullets yet, a buddy and mine have been talking about getting into at some point in the future. Can you buy the Keith/Lyman number 429421 bullets or is it something you have to cast yourself? Looking at Midway, I've found some 240 grain semi-wadcutters from...

Re: New Carry Pistol

Rick, The new Ruger will most likely end up scoped at some point. For now I think I'll shoot it with open sights since the Smith & Wesson is a virgin when it comes to deer hunting. Once she get's a few chances under her belt, I'm sure I'll get the itch to take the Super Blackhawk out. When I get...

Re: carry-gun

My vote is for the H&K also. It's tough, accurate and eats anything you feed it. I've had mine for 5 years now and absolutely love it. A 1911 is high on my list of next purchases to make but for now the H&K rules the roost! Here's a picture of mine...it's a full size matched up with an M6 La...

Re: New Carry Pistol

Sweet Kimbers you've got there. I've been toying with the idea of getting a 1911 but can't figure out which one to get. I know I want a 5" barrel, adjustable sights among other goodies but I'm always torn between the Kimbers and Springfields. The only 1911 I've got is a trophy match long slide ...

Re: Looking at possibly picking up a Ruger Blackhawk in .44 Mag

Thanks for the info so far! I stopped back in today to the shop and made the purchase, I will be picking it up on Tuesday (dang the holiday!). . It is the New Model Super Blackhawk and has the 5 1/2" barrel. He is going to throw in another set of grips also, either Hogue or Pachmayr. I will pos...
