Re: Couldn't resist...

I figured it was better to stay home than risk hitting the ditch during the trip. As far as the fish fry, it should be a good time. I've got a buddy who has family that has a summer home down in Florida and their love is crappie fishing, which works out well because crappie fries up beautifully! As ...

Re: Couldn't resist...

Glen - Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to get down there this weekend, we had crappy weather with sleet and ice and didn't feel like making the trip (i should refraise that, I really, really, really, really wanted to make the trip but thought better of driving on ice for 3 hours to get it). Thi...

Re: Couldn't resist...

Rick - I'm not sure how I've ever going to decide on a holster! I checked out the places you mentioned and they all have numerous choices. I do beleive I would like a belt rig so that helps narrow things down a bit (only slightly however  ) and I really like some of the ones that El Paso Saddle...

Re: Couldn't resist...

Glen,

I'm it's about a 3 hour trip to get down to where I need to go which isn't too bad. If I still lived around the Springfield area I'd be even closer! I'll have to see what all I've got going on this weekend....

Re: Couldn't resist...

Glen - a road trip is very tempting! :chin: Rick - the gun is coming from Lew Horton Distributing Co. (http://www.lewhorton.com) which specializes in special edition and custom guns by the big name manufacturers. It was the first time that I had seen anything like that as well and it seems like I'm...

Couldn't resist...

My Thanksgiving with the fiancé turned out even better than expected when I found out her cousin's husband has his FFL. One thing lead to another and before I knew it, I had placed an order for a new S&W revolver. It's a model 686 plus, 7 shot .357 mag with 2 1/2" barrel and adjustable r...

Re: So far this season......

Melvin, I had trouble last year just getting to the cabin we still in during the snow storm we had 2nd season last year! I also remember the ice storm we had in January. We had a similar experience to yours during the 1st season this year. Not a hole lot of shooting going on where I was in Pike Coun...

Re: Illinois Deer Hunt - Meat in the freezer

Here's a couple of the Aimpoint Red Dots that I've been reading about...both can be found on Aimpoints website under the hunting products (http://www.aimpoint.com) http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s290/mjweste/Shooting/Aimpoint.gif http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s290/mjweste/Shooting/0ee9d2f24...

Re: Off to hunt deer tomorrow!

Great photos! Sure beats the heck out of the corn and soybean fields around me! I think I could be content just sitting and camping in the hills and mountains away from everything. It's aways nice to have a successful hunt but in a place like that, it would be just as nice to enjoy the outdoors and ...

Re: So far this season......

Melvin - Those are two dandy does you took there along with a nice buck! Congrats on the hunt! I was also going to hunt the late season in January (expecting to carry over a permit from 1st and 2nd season) but I used up both my permits during the 1st season and missed the deadline for the late seas...

Re: Illinois Deer Hunt - Meat in the freezer

Rick - Those are nice looking red dots, I'll have to look into them. I talked to one of the tech reps at opticsplanet.com and he recommended either the Aimpoints or Eotech red dots. I'll be doing some research over the winter and I'll keep you posted on what I come up with. Bullfrog - I've had thos...

Re: Illinois Deer Hunt - Meat in the freezer

Rick,

Any opinions on red dots? The only one I've ever used is a cheap Tasco and I'd rather spend the money and get a good one the first go around.

Thanks,
Matt

Illinois Deer Hunt - Meat in the freezer

My 2007 deer hunt has come to an end. The hunt started off promising, I saw the largest buck I've ever seen alive in the woods. I was pretty excited because this was the 1st year I was carring a pistol and thought I might have a shot at the largest buck I've seen. He was only 35 yards out but as whi...

Re: Picked up a new range finder

Rick, Sweet setup you have there. I'll have to look into creating a setup similar to that before I go on my pd hunt. I love the S&W rimfire as well. I've recently fallin' in love with revolvers and a S&W rimfire is on my list to get. I know the Ruger's are excellent pistols as well. My dad h...

Re: Picked up a new range finder

Rick, I have become very partial to S&W revolvers also and my experience with the most recent Ruger Super Blackhawk I picked up has helped sway me that direction. I do know I'll have two less excuses this year if I don't bring home a nice deer but I'm sure I can come up with something. My ...
